I CHOOSE A-ROD

posted Mon, 04-09-07

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   SERIOUSLY IMPORTANT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guys I have put up a lot of links over the past ALMOST 3 YEARS (!) on this blog, but I am pretty sure that this insanely awesome and, YES,  LOST-esque A-Rod positivity movement website is the most important, or at least my favorite:

SERIOUSLY PLEASE GO TO THE SITE! !!!!  The combination of heartfelt Yankees fandom, the aura of corporate motivational consulting, the intense and mysterious Dharma-esque logo, the quasi-empirical crypto-mystical philosophy, and really fucking slick html skills (make sure to have your speakers on if possible, the sound effects are really pro) is absolutely destroying me right now, wowowowowowow

- and make no mistake, I am buying into this project on a personally meaningful level - especially after his ML-leading, co-Player of the Week-winning 5-homer first week, including his third career walkoff grand slam (only 3 players in history have as many!), I am so fucking ready to give A-Rod my unwavering support this year!  Seriously!!!!!!  I urge everybody to go to this site and spend some serious time with it due to its intense uniqueness (the Q&A at the start of each page is a really nice touch), but Yankee fans especially, and especially Yankee fans around my and the author's age (I'm 26, he's 27!), will really fucking connect with the desperate, hopeful vibe -

I can't overemphasize what a concentrated vein of internet richness this is, but let me at least excerpt a generous chunk of what could be the mission statement to help give a feel for the flavor and to spread the good word:

With the stakes being as high as they are today, and with the power we know we hold as fans, I firmly believe that our campaign of sustained, positive support can propel Alex to victory. We are his newfound friends—literally—and in order for our third baseman to emerge on the other side of this thing as a hero and as a champion, he needs to find himself again in the wilderness (i.e. at the plate and in the field). Our project has the ability to make this happen, or at least give him the best possible chance to make it so. In the end, our goal is a noble one, and highly attainable if we all come together: shared victory for a community, for an athlete, and most importantly, for the New York Yankees.

And there it is.

He chose us, so by choosing him now, we all have the opportunity to rise as one. If or when the daily boos stop, the daily hits will flow, and confidence will return to right this ship: our confidence in Alex, his confidence in himself, and the general confidence that anything is possible when it involves baseball in the Bronx.

The Aura of New York just might return as well, to lend its own, helping hand.

Either way, 2007 is primed to be an amazing story, and one we participated in from the very beginning—through the good times and the bad. A journey to the pinnacle of the game for a fallen star, and for those who joined The Movement—you and I—a wild ride to the summit of human interaction. Fan activism: the newest concept in professional sports.

It's time to step up to the plate, my friends. To dig in.

Visualize the dream, put in the effort, and make it your reality. That way, when it actually does happen for us, it will be unlike anything we've ever experienced—this goes for Alex too. Euphoria raining down in the Bronx, and we all contributed our faith...we all took part in a piece of history.

Choose. Believe. Rise.

Three simple steps. An infinite supply of possibility.

Game on, New York.

Thank you for listening.
