PASSION OF THE PRESENT

posted Thu, 07-29-04
Have any of the speakers at the DNC mentioned the genocide in the Sudan, out of curiosity?  I hope so (if not, it's certainly not because they've been too busy talking about Al-Qaeda...).  I haven't blogged on this before - this kind of mind-bending horror tends to leave me pretty speechless - but I will simply link to Passion of the Present, a blogger/activist resource site for those wishing to raise awareness of and/or funds for remediating this tragedy (via Winds of Change - where Joe duly notes the economic interests influencing France, Russia, and China's opposition to sanctions).  Note also the comprehensive post on the past and present  of the Sudan by Robert Corr, which has deservedly been highlighted on PotP and WoC, easily the best one-stop Sudan infosource I've seen.  Never again... (or, you know, a couple times a decade until the international community gets its act together and develops a framework for addressing genocide that actually works.)
