Tangentially related to Friday's post on diversity in groups, and more generally worth a read in its own right, is ZenPundit's 3-part series on horizontal and vertical thinking and the way that they interact to produce INSIGHT. This horizontal/vertical 'cognitive partnership' is discussed in the context of individuals as well as groups, and in fact highlights what is probably one of the broadest and most important heuristic balances to strike in your properly (functionally) diverse group (as discussed Friday!). The Drs. Eides have some more commentary on their very excellent Neurolearning Blog.
