I kind of just wanted to have the satisfaction of joining what seems like it must be the biggest trackback party in the history of the world, I don't really have much of an opinion either way on 'the Swifties' (other than to say that I miss the days before such a lame-ass word like 'Swifties' was being used so frequently) or Malkin. Although I will say that, while she is pretty pathetic on the show (although Matthews is, as usual, an ignorant blowhard), her account is not only pretty sympathy-inducing, but is much more defensible. As an astonishing number of those 132 trackbacks completely fail to note, a self-inflicted wound (which can happen by accident, and often, tragically, does - and I don't mean to be a dick, but Max Cleland comes most immediately to mind) is NOT the same thing as shooting yourself on purpose, as she explains in her post but not, inexplicably, on the show. Well, not inexplicably I guess - my guess is that she didn't actually read the book either (not that she had known that she was going to be asked about it), she just read the press release or some other executive summary-ish thing, and not very carefully, at that. Which is more than Matthews did, of course. Anyways, this shit does not matter.
